All About CEREC® Same Day Crowns

In Crowns, Dentistry, San Antonio Dentist

Over time, tooth decay and cavities can create irreparable damage to the surfaces of a tooth requiring it to be restored or removed. Dental Crowns not only restore a tooth’s structure, but also protect it from further damage. The process for getting a crown typically takes more than one visit. Impressions will be taken of your teeth and sent to a dental lab where they will create a custom crown to cover and restore the structure and appearance of the damaged tooth. Your dentist will then drill down the majority of the damaged tooth and fit you with a temporary crown in the meantime. The process can take anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks before the permanent crown is finished, and let’s face it, who wants to make reoccurring visits to their dentist for the same issue?

Move Over Temporary Crown, Here Come CEREC®
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic.
It is a dental restorative system that gives your dentist the ability to create and place a permanent crown in one visit.

How Does the CEREC System Work and What to Expect
During a CEREC procedure a 3D digital scan will be captured of the teeth. This information will be used to tell the CEREC Machine the 3 dimensional details of how your tooth is shaped. A small block of ceramic matching the color of your teeth will be placed inside the machine where it will be milled into your crown. This crown will perfectly resemble your tooth in color and shape.

Meanwhile your dentist will prepare the tooth by removing the decayed portion and shaping it to hold the crown. The CEREC crown will be cemented into place and the procedure will be complete. Fast, quick, and efficient.

Benefits of CEREC Same-Day-Crowns
CEREC crowns are durable, long lasting, and resemble real tooth enamel color, texture and opacity. The one day time frame keeps you from taking too much time out of your schedule and will last you up to 15 years with proper oral hygiene. Another bonus is that CEREC same-day-crowns cost about the same as traditional crowns and may be covered by insurance depending your coverage. You will be saving time and money with less copays, less driving time and less time away from work with CEREC’s one visit procedure.
